1. Who we are

tapdict.com is operated by Hannes Thöne, Nordstraße 16, 34414 Warburg, Germany (“we”). These terms apply to the use of the website and of all dictionaries offered on it.

2. What we offer

We offer bilingual dictionaries for language learners as free downloads in several file formats, as an online dictionary and through a public API. There is no claim to a particular dictionary, format or to the website being available at all times. We may change, update or remove dictionaries at any time.

3. AI-generated content, no guarantee

The dictionary entries are generated with AI language models and checked automatically. Despite these checks, they can be wrong, incomplete or misleading. We do not guarantee that the content is correct, complete or suitable for a particular purpose. Do not rely on the dictionaries where mistakes could have serious consequences, for example for medical, legal, safety-related or professional translation work.

4. What you may do

We grant you a free, simple (non-exclusive), non-transferable right to use the dictionaries for personal, non-commercial purposes. In particular, you may:

  • download the files and install them on your own devices and apps,
  • use them for your own reading, learning and studying,
  • convert them into another format for your own use,
  • recommend them and share links to our website.

5. What you may not do

Without our prior written permission, you may not:

  • publish, distribute or offer the files or substantial parts of their content elsewhere (for example on other websites, file-sharing platforms or in app stores),
  • sell the dictionaries or use them in commercial products or services,
  • use the content to build other dictionaries or datasets, including as training data for AI models,
  • download files automatically or in masses, or circumvent the download protection.

Teachers and schools who want to use the dictionaries in class are welcome to ask us. We are happy to help.

6. The API

You may use the API in personal and non-commercial projects (for example a reading tool or a learning app you share for free). Please name tapdict as the source, link to the entries and point out that the content is AI-generated. Keep to the request limit and do not use the API to copy whole dictionaries; download them instead. We may limit or block access in case of misuse.

7. Liability

The dictionaries are provided free of charge. We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health and under the German Product Liability Act. Otherwise, our liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law.

8. Reporting mistakes and content

If you find a mistake or content that you consider unlawful, please write to . We check every report and correct or remove content where necessary.

9. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms in the future. The version that applies is the one published here when you download a file.

10. Applicable law

German law applies. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you have your habitual residence.

tapdict makes free offline dictionaries for people learning a language by reading.

The entries are written by AI models and checked automatically, so some of them will be wrong.
